In browsing comments of people I respect and work with in today's social media world I often run across observations and comments that must be shared. Today was another one of those times. Mnar Muhawesh, Founder and Editor of Mint Press News, is one of those people I am fortunate to know and communicate with. In our mutual busy schedules more often than not I am reading something on her person FB page in passing. Like many of us she thinks out loud on a social media platforms. The last vacation, an accomplishment of a child, bad weather, a party with good friends, and, so on.
Some of us also will post important news stories. Now Mnar and I work in the media. Alternative media specifically since neither of us approach telling the public about an event the same way Fox, MSNBC, #CNN and the three major networks have been reporting for some time now. Some call what we do activism. I push back on that because neither of us are bloggers. We write. We bring information to the public that we believe the pubis should know. We do it factually and with as much objectivity as possible. After all we are not trying to tell you how to think when we ask you to demand better reporting and facts from all forums who make money off of the information they are selling. We are not forgetting to be objective because we are both advocates for #peace. Certainly we are not forgetting to be objective when we highlight major events initiated by any particular elected official. So when those three things come together let's not forget what the goal of real journalism is. To shine the light on what our government is doing so we can make informed decisions about what to do or not do about it an to hold our elected officials accountable.
It is with this in mind that I share these important comments by Mnar on her personal Facebook page of thoughts she had from listening to #NPR interview Presidential Candidate #Lindsey Graham, while she was on her way to work.. For me what is paramount here is that everything Mnar says is the 100% truth.
If you want to know exactly how propaganda works, just listen to the American media talk about the #Iran deal. Just yesterday on my way to work, I listened to NPR interview Republican lawmaker Lindsay Graham where they asked him what he thought of the deal. I actually started laughing thinking to myself 'why would you ask a racist war hawk what he thinks about a peace deal?' And believe me, he didn't hesitate to spew lie after lis along with disturbing xenophobic rhetoric that toed Netanyahu's line about Iran, and all Muslims for that matter. He called Iran the largest exporter of terrorism in the world, and associated Iran with al-Qaeda and ISIS and talked about how now Obama has actually paved a new way for Iran to wreak havoc across the Middle East with their nuclear weapons, and how this is a threat to Israel and Saudi Arabia. (surprise?)

I watched nearly every major news station from CNN to MSNBC to FOX to all their smaller stations and newspaper toe this same hawkish rhetoric, and if you noticed, these people they interviewed literally repeated themselves over and over and over again as if what they were saying was God-sent and factual, with no challenge from the reporter or anchor pointing out the fallacies. One other aspect that was pushed by the reporters themselves, was that Iran gave up the bomb’ , but failed to mention that Iran never had a bomb nor did they plan on building one.
This is how a certain narrative is forced on the public and shoved down our throats with no one in the establishment media holding these elected officials accountable or challenging their rhetoric. When the same message is being repeated over and over again without any accountability, it becomes difficult for the average person to differentiate between fact and fiction making molding public opinion a very simple task, which is why our media is the most sophisticated propaganda machine to exist today.
To help us all peel through this mind molding media deception, here are TWO basic facts about the Iran deal that was failed to be mentioned by the media:
1) FACT: Iran does not have a bomb, never did, and was never planning on building one.
The Israeli intelligence group, the Mossad, came out a few months ago calling Netanyahu a liar stating that he has exaggerating the so called Iran threat for years. The Mossad leaked this very evidence to the public that stated Iran has no nuclear bomb ambitions, and won't build one, and most likely never will. They even stated that Iran’s nuclear ambitions were indeed peaceful.

For those who are following the crisis in Syria, it may be difficult for this aspect of the Iran deal facts that I’m listing to ring true in their ears. But, let’s not forget that the same propaganda being spewed about the Iran deal, is no different than the propaganda being spewed about what’s really happening in Syria. Iran is not a perfect state by any means, and many would argue that it’s support for Syria’s Assad has mired it’s image. Iran says however, that it’s only working with Assad to protect it’s borders from terror groups like ISIS and al-Nusra which are thriving in Syria and Iraq, and who are threatening to attack Iran -- all of which was stated in the US state department memo I linked to above. In addition to this, Iranian officials have said over and over again, that they are not committed to supporting Assad, they are committed more to fighting those terror groups.
A US state department memo actually states that Iran and Hezbollah are designated terror threats to the United States, but not because they are exporting terrorism, but because of their anti-Israel policies and military advancements. In fact the memo states that Iran and Hezbollah are staunchly fighting terrorism in Syria and Iraq, but their alignments pose a national security threat to “our allies”, not the United States. Of course, this clearly is referring to Israel other allies like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey.

Iran has been isolated for over 30 years from the rest of the world and demonized for the following reasons:
--Nationalizing its oil and not succumbing to the banking and oil cartel;
--Ousting US backed dictator the Shah who committed horrific crimes against the Iranian people and created an oligarchy in the nation under his rule while disrespecting Iranian ideals and culture;
-- For its outspoken fight against imperialism (allowing multinational corporations and creditors to exploit nation’s wealth and influence leadership/policies) ;
--Pushing out US and British meddling and speaking up against US/British influence in creating terror groups like al-qaeda and fomenting civil strife across the Middle East with support for allies in the region (Turkey, Saudi Arabia, & Qatar)
--And lastly, for not recognizing the state of Israel while standing up for Palestinian rights. Iran also helped form the group Hezbolla, which is viewed as a resistance group that was formed to protect Lebanon against Israel’s colonialist expansion into Lebanon and Syria, which we saw take place in 1987.
For these very reasons, Iran has been demonized and isolated for years and the world has not had a fair clear image of the Iranian people or it’s government. You don’t have to agree with their religious perspective or way of life, but it’s important that we build bridges to understand each other more and respect each others culture and heritage. I hope that this deal with build the proper channels of healthy communication to a road that will bring about real lasting peace.
I think these thoughts should be shared with as many people as possible so they can hopefully take a long hard look at how our elected officials are lying to us and how they are getting away with it because most of the media and these alleged journalists let them get away with. Lindsey Graham certainly has no interest in being interviewed Mnar. Definitely not by me as I would start with his NDAA comments from 2012 and go from there. This man is an elected official and hey all must be held to answer the truth. Especially when it is about peace.
Please share Mnar's thoughts with your friends, family and colleagues. See what they think after.
